How to Find Your Serial Number on Kubota Machines
What is a Serial Number?
A serial number is a unique identification code given to each machine by the manufacturer. It allows precise tracking of the individual unit and is essential for warranty claims, inventory control and parts ordering.
For Kubota machines, the model number identifies the type of machine, while the serial number pinpoints the exact production unit.
Old vs New Engine Serial Numbers
Kubota has used different formats over the years. Knowing which applies to your engine helps you decode it properly.
Old Format (pre–June 2012)
- Numbers could be purely numeric (e.g., 12345) or 6-character alpha-numeric.
- Contained year and month codes, plus a production sequence.
New Format (post–June 2012)
- From June 1, 2012, all engines use a 7-digit unique serial number.
- Globally standardised—no duplicates, regardless of factory.
Example: V3307-8CMA001
- V3307 = Engine model
- 8 = Production line number
- C = Year (2012)
- M = Month (June)
- A001 = Sequence number

How to Decode Kubota Engine Serial Numbers
Kubota provides a code key for identifying the year and month of manufacture.
Year of Manufacture
Codes run sequentially from 1 = 2001 through to V = 2027. Example: Code “N” = 2022, Code “S” = 2025.
Month of Manufacture
Each month has its own code (A/B = January, C/D = February, etc.). Sequence numbers run in blocks (0001–9999, A001–B999, etc.).

Where to Find Engine Serial Numbers (by Series)
Kubota engines have specific stamped serial number locations depending on the series:
Series | Serial Number Location |
Super Mini Series | Side of injection pump mounting point |
05 Series / CRS | Below exhaust manifold, flywheel side crankcase |
03 Series | Injection pump mounting surface |
07 Series | Below intake manifold, fan-side crankcase |
V3 Series | Below intake manifold, flywheel-side crankcase |
09 Series | Below intake manifold |
EA/EL Series | Gear case side mounting surface |
OC Series | Fan side mounting surface |
WG Series |
|
For all Kubota engines the serial number is also stamped over the cylinder head.
Tractors – Serial Number Location
- Stamped on the left side of the clutch housing
- Found on the gearbox housing (right side)
- Located on the front axle housing (left side)
- Attached to the frame near the operator’s platform (right-hand side)
- Positioned on the frame below the engine (left-hand side)
- On some models, placed under the operator’s seat
Tractor Serial Number Breakdown
Position | Code Description | What It Tells You |
1–3 | Manufacturer Identifier |
The first three characters identify the Kubota division responsible for the machine.
|
4 | Series / Product Family | Indicates the tractor’s internal product line (e.g., B, L, or M series). This is Kubota’s internal code, not the marketing model number shown on the hood. |
5–8 | Configuration Block |
|
9 | Check Digit | A verification character used to validate the PIN. |
10–12 | Production Date & Plant Code |
|
13–17 | Sequential Build Number | The final five digits are the tractor’s unique production sequence. Higher numbers mean later units off the line. |
Serial Number Label Locations on Other Kubota Equipment
Zero-Turn Mowers
- Label located on the floor pan, under the operator’s seat.
Skid Steers
- Found on the front right corner of the machine frame
- May also be on the frame near the operator’s station
- Sometimes located inside the cab on the door frame or dashboard
Track Loaders
- Located on the front right corner of the chassis frame
- Identification plate may also be mounted on the frame under the cab door
- May also be welded directly to the main chassis
Mini Excavators
- Often located on the right-hand side of the cab, under the window
- May also be found on the chassis near the boom mounting bracket
- May also be found on the counterweight area
RTVs (Utility Vehicles)
- Often located on the main frame rail above the battery, near the operator’s seat or the centre of the machine.
- Another common location is on the frame behind the driver’s seat, between the bed and the roll bar. On some models, the bed must be lifted to see the label clearly.
Attachments & Accessories
Implements such as loaders, mower decks, and backhoes all carry their own model and serial numbers. Each attachment has a separate parts catalogue, so always check the implement’s plate directly.
