Commercial vehicle requirements are not one-size-fits-all. Tachograph equipment supports drivers’ hours records, ADR kits are intended for relevant dangerous-goods operations, and FORS equipment relates to the requirements of the accreditation scheme. Operators should establish what applies to each vehicle, route and load before specifying equipment.

Chapter 8 chevrons and vehicle signage help make vehicles more conspicuous when stopping or working on the highway, while correctly made and fitted number plates keep identification clear. Markings should remain clean and visible, and damaged, faded or missing compliance items should be dealt with during routine fleet inspections.
