How to Find Your Serial Number on Thwaites Machines
What is a Serial Number?
A serial number is a unique identification code assigned to each machine by the manufacturer. It allows the individual unit to be identified accurately and is essential when ordering replacement parts, checking machine details, or dealing with warranty claims.
On Thwaites dumpers, the machine serial number forms part of the VIN, or Vehicle Identification Number.
Understanding the Thwaites Dumper VIN
The VIN is made up of a number of sections, each of which tells you something specific about your machine. For example, SLCM471ZZ101B3079:

Thwaites recommend that you do not use a parts manual to order replacement spares if the prefix level of your machine is higher than the number quoted at the front of that parts manual.
Where to Find the Serial Number on a Thwaites Dumper
The serial number or VIN plate on a Thwaites dumper is typically found on the side bodywork or chassis of the machine, however the exact position will vary depending on the model and design of your dumper. On some machines the plate is located on the side cowling near the operator's position, whilst on others it can be found further back on the side panel, closer to the operator platform or skip area.
If the serial number plate cannot be found, or if it has become unreadable due to wear or damage, check the owner's manual, service records, or original purchase documentation. These documents may include a record of the VIN or machine serial number.
Other Identification Numbers on Thwaites Dumpers
In addition to the main VIN plate, Thwaites dumpers carry a number of other identification numbers across the machine. Depending on the model, these can include the engine serial number, axle serial numbers, drive motor serial number, and drive pump number.
