Measuring Bucket Pins on a Mini Digger
It's a common question: "I need a replacement bucket for my mini excavator, but how do I know which one to choose?" You need three measurements: the pin diameter, the pin centre, and the dipper gap. If you're wondering how to measure bucket pin dimensions on your mini digger, here's how!

Top Tip: It's best to remove the pins from your attachment before measuring. While it's not necessary, it makes measuring easier and more accurate.
How to Measure the Pin Diameter:
- You will need a tape measure or steel ruler for this.
Hold your tape measure over the bucket hole. Allow for slight wear if the bucket has been used frequently. You can also use callipers for a more precise measurement. Alternatively, remove the pins and measure their width, but this method may not be as accurate if there is wear and tear.
How to Measure the Pin Centre:
- You will need a tape measure or steel ruler for this.
Measure the pin centres by finding the distance between the two bucket pins from centre to centre. Place your tape measure over the top of the pin holes. If you're unsure where the pin centres are, measure from the edge of the first hole to the edge of the second hole.
How to Measure the Dipper Gap:
- You will need a tape measure or steel ruler for this.
The dipper gap is the internal diameter between the bucket hangers. Insert your tape measure through the hole and extend it to the opposite hanger. This will give you the correct dipper width. Remember to measure the smallest internal size, which is between the bucket bosses.
