Maintenance and Troubleshooting a Belle PCLX Plate Compactor
Maintenance and Troubleshooting a Belle Plate Compactor - PCLX
Plate compactors are essential for levelling and preparing surfaces for projects like building bases, driveways, and paths. Proper compaction reduces air voids, minimising risks of subsidence and water damage.
Regular maintenance is crucial for compactors, especially due to wear from harsh conditions and constant vibration.
Here is a maintenance and troubleshooting guide for your plate compactor.
Maintenance Guide:
Regular maintenance ensures years of reliable operation. Before performing any maintenance, switch off the engine and disconnect the HT lead from the spark plug. Always place the ‘PCLX’ on level ground to accurately check fluid levels.
Change the vibrator shaft case oil after the first 100 hours of use, then every 500 working hours.

Troubleshooting Guide:
Engine Will Not Start?
No fuel - Check the fuel level by opening the fuel cap and refilling as needed.
Engine switched off - Ensure the engine is switched on.
Spark plug fouled - Clean the spark plug and reset the gap if necessary.
Cold engine - Close the choke if the engine is cold.
Engine flooded - Open the choke, fully open the throttle, and pull the recoil starter until the engine fires.
Engine still will not start & the unit will not vibrate?
Major fault - Contact your Agent or Altrad Belle.
Engine speed is too slow - Set the engine speed control to fast.
Drive belt tension loose - Adjust the belt tension if it is loose.
Air Filter blocked - Clean or replace the air filter if blocked.
Drive failure - Contact your Agent or Altrad Belle.
Vibrator failure - Contact your Agent or Altrad Belle.
Asphalt adhering to plate. Bituminous surface. Flaking (laminating)
Lack of lubrication - Use water for lubrication.
Over compaction - Remove and relay the material.
Low travel speed (plate sinking)
Layer thickness too deep - Remove some of the material.
Moisture content too high or too low - Adjust the material as needed.
