How is pollution caused in organisations and businesses?

Pollution is not only a hazardous substance that can harm people and the environment, it’s also any substance that is not found naturally in the environment. Organisations and businesses can cause pollution from their various operations, such as air pollution to contaminating water sources. Even storing chemicals and liquids can cause pollution if they were not kept in the correct storage requirements and were to leak. Other examples of pollution from business are from concrete, detergents and paper slurry etc.

What Implications can businesses face?

If a company or organisation is found emitting harmful pollutants, you could be given an unlimited fine, go to prison for up to 5 years or both! You may also have to pay for the whole cost of the clean-up, there could also be extra costs like paying compensation to third parties, higher insurance premiums or loss of contracts. These consequences show the severity of polluting because of the damage it can cause to the environment.
