A Trip Back in Time || Old Warehouse
This week, I visited our old stores just across the road, taking a trip back in time. Walking in, you feel like you've stepped into a business frozen in time. Desks remain cluttered with old files, catalogues, and photos, all stuck in a time warp. It’s easy to get lost among forgotten items and memories housed in this building. You can still sense the buzzing atmosphere that once filled these rooms, where everyone rushed to meet the growing orders and demands of a business that started from humble beginnings.
Inside the warehouse, a few old parts sit on the remaining shelves, waiting to be moved to the new build. The high roof creates an openness in what was once a packed warehouse filled with an expanding range of stock. The trade counter still stands at the front, complete with its original signage and fittings from when L&S made their move. You can see how the counter looked in its prime, always filled with new and exciting products. It was, and still is, the pride of the business, growing in size when we moved to a bigger warehouse. A lot of thought went into designing the original counter to meet customer needs, right down to the exact height for a grand experience.
Walking upstairs transports you to the real beginnings of the business. Old tea chests filled with vintage parts collected over the years, including Villiers and Lister Petter, are still marked with their original labels from around the world. Stacked high, they create rows of boxes housing parts you could sift through all day. Lister Petter piston ring sets, gasket sets, and Villiers filters are just a fraction of what fills these boxes. This extensive collection remains as it was many years ago, with more parts being identified and moved to the new build each week. The more you dig, the more you find. We even discovered an original Lister Petter sign like the one that would have appeared on the side of the Reliant Plant building. This is just one of many items in our old building, a time capsule reminding us of where the business began.
As you leave the old stores and look towards the new build, you get a real sense of how much the business has grown in just two years. From Wyn and Alan starting out manufacturing parts and selling second-hand spares and machines to a constantly expanding business. Keep an eye on the vintage engine section of our website; many more parts are on the way!
