Back in History || Villiers Price List
Wyn recently discovered a first edition Villiers retail price list from 1958 in our archives. We explored the history of this iconic vintage engine brand. The first thing you’ll notice is that the prices are listed in pounds, shillings, and pence. Just for reference, pence was denoted as ‘d’, derived from the Roman word ‘denarius’.
Flipping through the book, it’s clear that a lot has changed since 1958, especially the prices!
In 1958, a complete engine cost just over £11, which is roughly £254.87 today. Surprised? Back then, a loaf of bread was 4p, six eggs cost 8p, and a house could be bought for just £2000!
Remarkably, spare parts for Villiers engines started at just 1 penny (‘d’), and carburettors began at £2 - wouldn’t that be great today!
Did you know we still stock Villiers engine parts? Check out our range here.
Wyn is always on the lookout for vintage Villiers engine spares, so please get in touch if you have any.
