Common Reasons Why Your Lawn Mower Won't Start
Lawn mowers often face issues, especially after long periods of inactivity during winter.
Routine maintenance can help prevent problems. Here are some common reasons your lawn mower might not start.
Start with the fuel. Ensure you have petrol and replace any old fuel.
Spark Plug is Faulty
A faulty spark plug is a common issue. Clean any debris, and if that doesn't help, replace the spark plug.
Air Filter is Dirty
Check the air filter for clogs. Clean it if blocked, or replace it if dirt cannot be removed.
Fuel Isn't Reaching the Engine
If fuel isn't reaching the engine, the fuel filter or carburettor may be clogged. Old fuel in the float bowl can also cause starting issues. Drain the old fuel and clean the carburettor. If problems persist, replace the carburettor.
Defective Start Switch
A faulty start switch can prevent your mower from starting. Test it with an ohmmeter and replace it if it works intermittently or is hard to turn.
Always check that the power supply is connected.
Blown Fuse or Tripped Breakers
This could be the issue. Test the outlet; if it won't switch on, reset or replace the breakers and fuses.
Cutting Bag is Full
A full cutting bag can cause starting problems. Disconnect and empty the bag.
Grass and Debris Clogging up the Blades
If the blades are clogged, they won't turn. Clean the blades to resolve this issue.
On/Off Switch is Faulty
A faulty on/off switch could be the problem. Replace the switch to fix it.
Activated Thermal Cut-Out
If the mower blade is jammed or the motor is overloaded, the thermal cut-out may activate.
