How to Measure Your Chain and Bar
To get the right chainsaw chain, measure the pitch, gauge, and drive links.
The pitch may be marked on the guide bar. If not, you can calculate it.
To calculate the pitch on a chainsaw chain, measure the distance between any three rivets on the chain and divide by two.
The gauge is the width of the drive link. It measures the thickness of the drive links and is usually found on the chainsaw, often on the guide bar. Matching the correct gauge to the chainsaw is crucial for proper fit into the guide bar.
Count the individual links to determine the correct amount. The drive link count corresponds to the overall size of the bar, which can vary by manufacturer.
Measure from where the bar emerges from the casing to the tip of the bar.
