Description
Ignition Spark Tester.
Connects between spark plug and ignition lead.
Clear indication of ignition system function.
Here are a few things to try if you're not getting a spark:
- Check the spark plug: Remove the spark plug and inspect it for signs of wear or damage. If it is dirty, clean it with a wire brush and reinsert it. If it is damaged or worn, replace it with a new one.
- Check the ignition cable: Inspect the ignition cable for any cracks or damage. If the cable is damaged, it may be preventing the spark from reaching the spark plug. Replace the cable if necessary.
- Check the ignition coil: Use a spark tester (such as Ignition Spark Tester 015 800) to test the ignition coil. Clip one end of the tester to the ignition cable and the other grounded to the cylinder head. Spin the flywheel rapidly (at least 350 RPM) and watch for spark in the tester window. If the spark jumps the tester gap, your ignition coil is working fine. If there is no spark, the ignition coil may need to be replaced.
- Check the flywheel key: The flywheel key may be sheared off, causing the ignition timing to be off. Remove the flywheel and inspect the key for damage. Replace the key if necessary.
- Check that the flywheel magnet is still strongly magnetised.
- Check the kill switch: The kill switch may be preventing the spark from reaching the spark plug. Disconnect the kill switch and try to start the engine again.
