How to Identify the Mount Bar Size and Type

Getting to know your Stihl guide bar when changing or replacing can be difficult at first, however with the part number sequences Stihl have formed helps to identify what mount size is needed for your chainsaw. Stihl has a range of bars with 3 different mount bar sizes, with 9 combinations of pitch and gauge measurements.

How to Find or Measure the Mount on a Stihl Guide Bar

1. If you currently have a stihl bar you can check the part number stamped into the bar. E.g. 3005 (mount size) 000 4817.

2. If you do not have this information you can measure with a calliper the mount slot width and compare with the Stihl mount table above.

3. A final alternative is to measure the diameter of the studs on the chainsaw and compare this to the bar mount width measurement options.

Keep in mind when buying a different brand of bar the mount information isn't displayed very clearly, so part numbers need to be checked carefully.
