How to Identify the Mount Bar Size and Type

Getting to know your Stihl guide bar can be tricky when changing or replacing it. However, Stihl's part number sequences help identify the required mount size for your chainsaw. Stihl offers a range of bars with three different mount sizes and nine combinations of pitch and gauge measurements.

For more information about how to measure the pitch and gauge for a guide bar click here.

Stihl Mount Mounting Slot Width Oregon Alternative
3005 (Small Bar) .323” (8.2mm) A074 S5, C1
3003 (Medium Bar) .476” (12.2mm) D025 S1
3002 (Large Bar) .551” (14.0mm) E031 G1, S2

How to Find or Measure the Mount on a Stihl Guide Bar

  1. If you have a Stihl bar, check the part number stamped into it. For example, 3005 (mount size) 000 4817.
  2. If you don't have this information, measure the mount slot width with a calliper and compare it to the Stihl mount table above.
  3. Alternatively, measure the diameter of the studs on the chainsaw and compare this to the bar mount width options.

When buying a different brand of bar, be aware that the mount information may not be clearly displayed, so check part numbers carefully.
